REVIEW: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The best about this movie: the villains!!!  Paul Giamatti is barely recognizable as The Rhino. Wish he had been used more.  Such a wild departure for him and so much fun to see him all tatted up and bald.  Jamie Foxx went from nerd to the needy super-villain Electro.  And Dane Dehaan is  a standout as Harry Osborn, less so when he morphs into his super-villain role.

As high school sweethearts Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone don't even have to act out their tortured romance.  They've been a real-life couple for years.

The casting is spot on.  The weak link is the action.  It’s noisy and overly cgi’ed in 3-d.  And it’s wayyyyy too long.  2-and-a-half hours ???!!!   Seriously??  Sometimes size matters  but  most times,  quality trumps  quantity. And honestly, I don’t know that you need to spend the benjamins for the 3-D and Imax.  Just  sayin’.

Bottom line: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is  not only less than amazing, it’s one of the least amazing  in the ever-growing super-hero genre.
